The City of Lake Worth

Lake Worth Lifestyle

Located between Boynton Beach and Wellington and stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to State Road 7/441, beautiful Lake Worth is a coastal city of approximately 7 sq. miles and a population of just over 37,000 residents. Bordered by the city of West Palm Beach, Lake Worth Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean, Lake Worth exudes a relaxed and laid-back feel that has made it tremendously popular with locals and visitors alike.

Lake Worth Street Painting FestivalLake Worth has a strong historical tradition which is exemplified in its six historic districts which include over 1,000 historically designated buildings. Many of these historic buildings can be found in Lake Worth's extraordinarily vibrant downtown district. The downtown area has experienced a revival that has truly made it the city's cultural and entertainment heart. Outdoor cafes, boutiques and antique shops, art galleries, musical venues, museums and theaters can all be found in this charming district and taking an evening stroll down Lake Avenue and its historic Art Deco architecture is a favorite local pastime.

2013 saw the reopening of the newly reconstructed Lake Worth Casino Building and Beach Complex. The new construction stays true to the roots of the community and features stunning 1920’s style architecture. While no actual gambling occurs here anymore, the Casino building and its facilities boast an amazing array of restaurants, a 3,000 sq. ft. ballroom on the second floor of the complex with wrap-around terraces featuring extraordinary ocean views, a brand-new oceanfront park with picnic facilities and cabanas and paddleboat rentals.

Lake Worth shopping and dining options are many and getting to other south Florida destinations is incredibly convenient as both the Florida Turnpike and I-95 are a short drive away. Palm Beach International Airport is approximately 30 minutes away making travel to locations outside the area extremely easy.

Lovers of golf will adore Lake Worth as it hosts a number of world-class courses in the immediate area. The famous Lake Worth Golf Club has long been a community standard and exemplifies the “old Florida” charm that draws so many to call this area home. The club boasts an amazing 6,100 yd., par-70 course featuring extra stunning Intracoastal Waterway views.

Lake Worth Historical Facts

Like many communities in the south Florida area, the area that would later be known as Lake Worth experienced its first significant organized settlements in the late 1890's as Henry Flagler's famed rail line made its way south and helped make the area considerably more accessible. The land that Lake Worth currently occupies was originally owned by former slaves, Samuel and Fannie James until the year 1911, when they saw fit to sell the majority of their holdings to the Palm Beach Farms Company.

In 1912, Lake Worth was officially incorporated and major investment in infrastructure projects and improvements soon commenced. Lake Avenue was soon graded and made suitable for greater traffic loads and work began on the 1,000 ft. dock extending into Lake Worth Lagoon. Local favorite, Bryant Park also saw its beginnings during this period and remains a vital aspect of the community today where outdoor festivals, concerts and performances at the band shell are regular happenings.
